Life path 8 — The Executive

Eight is the number of material consequence — authority, money, scale, the machinery that makes things actually happen. Tradition reads it as unusually comfortable with leverage and unusually clear-eyed about what things cost. It carries the sharpest warning of the nine: 8 is described as the number most able to build something large and most able to be consumed by it, with the reading turning on whether the power is aimed at anything beyond itself.

Complete lines

Line of Reason

A complete line in the grid.

Line of Ambition

The 7-8-9 column complete. Read as drive that has both the wish and the machinery — the traditional marker of someone who converts intention into position.

Cooperation

Responsibility

A complete line in the grid.

Organisation

A complete line in the grid.

Care

A complete line in the grid.

Repeated numbers

Concentrated self-direction. Read as conviction that does not need external agreement — and does not always seek it.

What is missing

Missing 3

Read as difficulty getting the inner picture out — the thought is complete, the expression lags. Often described in people whose written voice is far stronger than their spoken one.

Missing 5

The centre of the grid, so its absence is weighted heavily. Read as difficulty adapting mid-course — a preference for the plan already chosen over the plan now indicated.

Vedic — Ank Jyotish

Moolank 8 comes from the day of the month alone; Bhagyank 8 from the whole date. They coincide here, which happens for about 11% of this database and is read as root and destiny pointing the same way.

Shani

Saturn. Labour, delay, consequence. Feared in popular practice more than any other, and read as the graha that makes people earn things.

Bhagyank uses the same arithmetic as the Western life path, so the two will always agree. That is not two traditions confirming each other — it is one calculation under two names.

In their words

There is no such thing as pointless violence. City of God, is that pointless violence? It's reality, it's real life, it has to do with the human condition. Being involved in Christianity and Catholicism when I was very young, you have that innocence, the teachings of Christ. Deep down you want to think that people are really good - but the reality outweighs that.
Movies touch our hearts, and awaken our vision, and change the way we see things. They take us to other places. They open doors and minds. Movies are the memories of our lifetime. We need to keep them alive.
I don't think there is any difference between fantasy and reality in the way these should be approached in a film. Of course if you live that way you are clinically insane.
I always tell the younger film-makers and students: Do it like the painters used to...Study the old masters. Enrich your palette. Expand the canvas. There's always so much more to learn.
I don't really see a conflict between the church and movies, the sacred and the profane. Obviously, there are major differences, but I can also see great similarities between a church and a movie house. Both are places for people to come together and share a common experience. I believe there is a spirituality in films, even if it's not one which can supplant faith.
Mean Streets dealt with the American Dream, according to which everybody thinks they can get rich quick, and if they can't do it by legal means then they'll do it by illegal ones.
